Transforming complex prosthetic and orthotic ordering from fragmented forms into a guided clinical workflow.
Guided Configurator replaced page-by-page Jotform and PDF/email workflows with an integrated experience designed to make ordering faster, more accurate and easier to complete.
Patient and treatment information progressively narrows the product space so clinicians can focus on applicable options.
Product availability is surfaced during configuration instead of being discovered after submission.
Validated shipping addresses replace free-form entry, preventing the incorrect-delivery issue caused by manually entered locations.
I started by meeting with subject-matter experts to understand how clinicians were ordering prosthetic and orthotic devices today, where errors occurred, and where the process created unnecessary work. I then facilitated a workshop to align user needs with business goals and establish a shared vision for the product. Early concepts were tested with clinicians before the team committed to the broader solution, and the direction tested strongly.

Rather than mirroring a database or long form, the prosthetics experience lets clinicians configure the physical device by socket, knee, foot, soft goods and components.

Patient information is not passive reference data. It drives downstream options and helps reduce the decision space while clinicians retain control over the final clinical choice.

The same product language scales across prosthetics and orthotics while adapting to domain-specific decisions such as measurements, materials, alignment, trimlines, components and logistics.

This was not a standalone form redesign. Guided Configurator needed to work within Hanger’s broader clinical ecosystem: pulling patient information from NextGen, writing updated patient data back when appropriate, supporting review and submission, and extending the order into approval workflows. I also updated and maintained the design system so the experience could scale as prosthetics and orthotics were delivered in phases.

The shipped experience has improved efficiency and accuracy, reduced avoidable ordering problems, and has so far eliminated incorrect deliveries caused by manually entered shipping addresses.
